Liebe Angehörige der Universität,
liebe Studierende,
mit großer Hoffnung und gespannter Erwartung blicken wir auf die kommenden Monate des Jahres 2023. Nicht nur unsere neuen Clusterinitiativen werden im Rahmen der Exzellenzstrategie Ende Mai einzureichen sein, auch der Strategieprozess Forschung wird weiter voranschreiten und im Laufe des Jahres zu einem vorläufigen Abschluss gelangen.
Seit meinem Amtsantritt im April 2021 haben wir dank der Unterstützung zahlreicher Akteur*innen aus unserer Universität und dem Göttingen Campus an einem nachhaltigen und auf die Zukunft gerichteten Konzept zur Forschungsstrategie der Universität Göttingen gearbeitet und gefeilt. Der Prozess war geprägt von vertrauensvoller Zusammenarbeit und aktiver Partizipation über alle Status- und Interessengruppen hinweg.
In verschiedenen Workshops mit den Dekan*innen, Senator*innen, Vertreter*innen aus der Verbundforschung und den Zentren, den Campus-Partnern und dem Göttingen Campus Council wurden Ideen zum Forschungsprofil gesammelt, Forschungsstärken und auch Schwächen der Universität diskutiert und mögliche thematische Schwerpunkte identifiziert, die in einer Umfrage mit den Alumni auf den Prüfstein gestellt wurden. Die Beiträge und Ideen aus den Workshops flossen in erste konzeptionelle Entwürfe zum Forschungsprofil, die schließlich auf einem Retreat im November 2022 einer breiten Teilnehmerschaft aus den verschiedenen Gruppen vorgestellt, an Thementischen interaktiv diskutiert und in anschließenden thematischen Workshops reflektiert wurden.
Auch wenn die Destillation der Ergebnisse aus solch großen Runden nicht immer einfach ist, war unser Retreat aus meiner Sicht ergiebig: Viele der Beiträge der Teilnehmenden sind in die Verschriftlichung unseres „Konzepts zur Forschungsstrategie 2023 bis 2037“ eingearbeitet worden. Dieses Konzept werden wir nun am Freitag, 17. Februar 2023, von 10.15 bis 11.45 Uhr innerhalb eines Georgia-Augusta-Dialogs live vorstellen; bereits einige Tage vorher werden wir den aktuellen Stand im Georgia-Augusta-Dialog zur Kommentierung freigeben.
Gestatten Sie mir einige Worte aus persönlicher Sicht: Der Prozess zur Erarbeitung einer universitären Forschungsstrategie hat mir viel Freude gemacht, die gegenseitige Wertschätzung der Diskussionspartner*innen und deren rege und aktive Partizipation am Prozess hat mich beflügelt und – auch das darf ich sagen – stolz gemacht. Stets sind wir einem tiefen Interesse an der Weiterentwicklung des Profils unserer Universität, einem Engagement für das Fortschreiben des guten Gelingens in Wissenschaft und Forschung, gegenseitigem Respekt und einer hohen Motivation, auf die strategische Planung der Georgia Augusta konstruktiv und zielorientiert Einfluss zu nehmen, begegnet.
Auf ebendiese Motivation setze ich auch weiterhin und lade Sie hiermit ausdrücklich zur aktiven Teilnahme ein: Ich würde mich sehr freuen, wenn Sie sich das Dokument bereits im Vorfeld auf dem entsprechenden Sharepoint anschauen könnten, und ich möchte Sie herzlich einladen, hier auch zu kommentieren, so dass wir zu einer intensiven und lebhaften Diskussion im Georgia-Augusta-Dialog – sowohl auf dem Sharepoint als auch live – kommen!
Ausdrücklich möchte ich mich bei all denen bedanken, die an dem bisherigen Prozess zur Erarbeitung eines Strategiekonzeptes mitgewirkt und dieses durch ihre Beiträge und Ideen befruchtet haben. Dear Staff, dear Students,
We are looking forward to the coming months with great hope and eager anticipation. Not only will we submit our new cluster initiatives at the end of May, as part of the Excellence Strategy, but the Research Strategy Process will also continue to progress and reach a preliminary conclusion in the course of the year.
Since I took office in April 2021, thanks to the support of numerous groups and individuals from our University and the Göttingen Campus, we have been working and refining a sustainable and future-focussed model for the research strategy of the University of Göttingen. The process has been characterised by close collaboration and active participation across all ranks and interest groups.
There have been a number of workshops with deans, members of the Senate, representatives from collaborative research and the centres, campus partners and the Göttingen Campus Council. This has enabled the collection of ideas for the research profile, discussion of research strengths and weaknesses of the University, and the identification of potential thematic focal points. These could then be put to the test in a survey with alumni. The contributions and ideas from the workshops flowed into initial conceptual drafts of the research profile, which were finally presented to a broad group of participants from the various groups at a retreat in November 2022, discussed interactively at topic tables and reflected on in subsequent thematic workshops.
Even though the distillation of results from such large meetings is not always easy, our retreat was productive from my point of view: many of the participants‘ contributions have been incorporated into the writing of the concept for our research strategy 2023 to 2037. We will now present this concept live at a Georgia-Augusta Dialogue on Friday 17 February 2023, from 10.15 to 11.45am; we will have already released the updated version for comment in the Georgia-Augusta Dialogue a few days earlier.
Please allow me to say a few words from a personal point of view: the process of developing a University research strategy has been a great pleasure for me. The mutual appreciation of the partners who were engaged in discussion and their lively and active participation in the process has inspired me and – I would like to add – made me proud. We have always encountered an intense interest in the development of our University’s profile, a commitment to continuing the good work in science and research, mutual respect and a high level of motivation to influence the strategic planning of the University in a constructive and goal-oriented way.
I continue to rely on this same motivation and hereby expressly invite you to actively participate: I would be very pleased if you could take a look at the document in advance via Sharepoint, and I would like to warmly invite you to comment here as well, so that we can have an intensive and lively discussion in the Georgia-Augusta Dialogue – both via Sharepoint and live.
