Liebe Angehörige der Universität,
liebe Studierende,
in den Medien und auch in unserem Newsletter war in den vergangenen Wochen immer wieder die Rede von einer sich besonders in den Krankenhäusern zuspitzenden Situation. Dies ist der Grund für Einschränkungen der Präsenz auf dem Campus, aber auch für Appelle zu Erst- oder Auffrischungsimpfungen. Heute möchten wir Ihnen Informationen zur aktuellen Situation an der Universitätsmedizin Göttingen (UMG), ihrer Mitarbeiter*innen und Patient*innen geben.
Insgesamt werden derzeit 33 Corona-Patient*innen in der UMG stationär behandelt, 13 davon in der Intensivmedizin und 20 auf Normalstationen. Über 90 Prozent der Covid-19-Patient*innen auf der Intensivstation sind ungeimpft, bei den meisten geimpften Patient*innen handelt es sich um vorerkrankte Menschen, bei denen eine Impfung keine ausreichende Wirkung hat. Um diese Patient*innen versorgen zu können, mussten bereits einzelne Stationen für Normalpatient*innen geschlossen und zahlreiche Operationen und Eingriffe bei Patient*innen verschoben werden.
Die Zahl der an Covid-19 erkrankten Patient*innen ist in den vergangenen Tagen und Wochen kontinuierlich gestiegen und eine Abflachung der Kurve ist nicht in Sicht. Im Gegenteil: Auch wenn die Auslastungs- und Belastungsgrenze unserer Mitarbeiter*innen an der UMG schon jetzt erreicht ist, rechnen wir auch in den kommenden Wochen mit einem weiteren Anstieg der Fallzahlen und weiteren dann notwendigen Einschränkungen des Krankenhausbetriebs. Wenn Ärzt*innen vor einer drohenden Triage warnen, ist dies keine Warnung vor einer fernen Zukunft – mit den bereits verschobenen Eingriffen befassen sich die UMG und ihr Ethikboard bereits mit diesem Thema.
Die Lage ist deshalb sehr ernst und wir danken Ihnen allen für Ihre Mithilfe, die Situation nicht weiter zu verschärfen. Bitte achten Sie auf die Abstands- und Hygieneregeln! Reduzieren Sie, wo möglich, Ihre Kontakte! Und lassen Sie sich, sobald es geht, erst- oder auffrischimpfen!

Dear Staff, dear Students, dear Guests of the University,
There has been constant discussion in recent weeks, both in the media and in our Newsletter, of a situation that is worsening, especially in the hospitals. This is the reason for limiting attendance on Campus as well as for appeals for people to get their initial and booster vaccinations. Today we would like to provide you with information on the current situation at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), its staff and its patients.
A total of 33 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated as inpatients at the UMG, 13 are in intensive care and 20 in general wards. More than 90 percent of the Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit are unvaccinated; most of the vaccinated patients are people with underlying health conditions for whom the vaccination does not have sufficient effect. In order to be able to care for these patients, individual wards for patients without the coronavirus have already had to be closed and numerous operations and medical interventions on patients have had to be postponed.
The number of patients suffering from Covid-19 has been rising continuously in recent days and weeks and there is no sign of the curve flattening. On the contrary: even though the capacity and workload limits of our staff at UMG have already been reached, we expect a further increase in the number of cases and that more restrictions will have to be made on hospital operations in the coming weeks. When doctors warn of the threat of having to triage, this is not a warning far in the distant future: medical interventions are already being postponed and the UMG and its ethics board are already dealing with this issue.
The situation is therefore very serious and we thank you all for your assistance in not exacerbating the situation. Please pay attention to the distancing, health and hygiene rules. Where possible, please reduce your contacts. And, as soon as possible, get your first vaccinations or your booster.
